Setup and Calibration Guide

Setup and calibration guide

Correct setup is essential for reliable readings. Use this guide before relying on long-term trend data from any Rovynel water quality monitor.

Important: Smart monitoring helps you see trends earlier, but it should be used together with responsible water care, periodic reference testing and proper calibration.

Before first use

  • Inspect the monitor, probe, cable, display and accessories for shipping damage.
  • Confirm the model is suitable for your water environment: pool, spa, aquarium, reef tank, koi pond or hydroponic reservoir.
  • Read the included instructions before submerging the probe.
  • Use a stable 2.4GHz WiFi network for WiFi models.
  • For LoRa pool models, place the receiver where walls, large metal objects or equipment rooms do not block the signal.

Installation workflow

  1. Choose a representative water area with stable flow and normal operating conditions.
  2. Avoid placing the probe directly beside chemical dosing points, strong jets, heaters or areas where debris accumulates.
  3. Mount or float the probe according to the product design so the sensing area remains properly submerged.
  4. Power on the device and complete app or display pairing.
  5. Let readings stabilize before making decisions based on the data.
  6. Compare initial readings with your normal reference test to understand the baseline.

Calibration basics

Use fresh calibration solutions and clean containers. Do not mix used calibration solution back into the original bottle. Rinse the probe as instructed between calibration steps and allow readings to stabilize before confirming.

When to calibrate or reference-check Why it matters
Before first long-term use Confirms your monitor is ready for your water environment.
After cleaning or storage Probe condition can change after drying, cleaning or long idle periods.
After unusual readings Helps determine whether the water changed or the probe needs attention.
On a regular maintenance schedule Supports long-term confidence in pH, EC, TDS and salinity trends.

App and alert setup

  • Pair the device while your phone is close to the monitor.
  • Set alert ranges that match your real use case, not generic values.
  • Review trend history after water changes, dosing, feeding, rainfall or nutrient adjustments.
  • If alerts repeat unexpectedly, inspect the probe placement and run a reference check.

Probe care

  • Keep the probe clean and avoid touching sensitive sensing surfaces directly.
  • Remove algae, scale or debris gently according to the instructions.
  • Do not expose the probe directly to concentrated chemicals during dosing.
  • Do not let probes dry out for long periods unless the product instructions specifically allow it.
  • Store sensors according to the included guidance when not in use.

Troubleshooting checklist

  • Readings jump quickly: check water flow, bubbles, probe contact and nearby dosing.
  • App will not pair: confirm 2.4GHz WiFi, phone proximity and network password.
  • Readings disagree with a test kit: clean the probe, recalibrate if needed and repeat a reference check.
  • Signal is weak: move the receiver/router or reduce physical obstructions.
