Simple comparison formula
Three-year ownership cost = initial equipment + three years of recurring supplies, labor, connectivity and energy + expected service parts + downtime allowance.
Device-type considerations
- Complete monitors: include the matching sensing, display and app path, but still budget for reference testing and sensor care.
- Standalone RS485 probe: include the host controller, power, wiring, software integration, commissioning and troubleshooting time.
- Air temperature and humidity monitor: include representative placement, WiFi coverage, comparison checks and replacement-probe confirmation.
Avoid false savings
- Do not compare an integration probe price with a complete monitor price without adding the controller, display and engineering work.
- Do not assume calculated TDS or specific gravity is a direct laboratory analysis.
- Do not omit manual reference testing when the decision requires another parameter such as ammonia, nitrite, alkalinity or dissolved oxygen.
