Hydroponic pH Setup and Calibration

This guide applies to the Rovynel HY485 6-in-1 Hydroponic Water Quality Monitor with Tuya App Alerts.

Watch the two videos in order: prepare the pH 4.01, 6.86 and 9.18 buffer solutions, then complete the three-point pH calibration.

Before you start

  • Prepare three clean cups and label them pH 4.01, pH 6.86 and pH 9.18.
  • Add 250 mL of purified water to each cup, then dissolve the matching buffer powder completely.
  • Use fresh solutions and keep the cups, tools and probe free from cross-contamination.
  • Rinse the pH probe with clean water between every solution and gently remove excess water with a soft lint-free tissue.
  • Keep the probe wet during the calibration sequence and follow the display prompts shown in the videos.

Step 01

Prepare the pH buffer solutions

Prepare all three buffers before opening the pH calibration menu.

  • Use one clean cup for each pH value.
  • Add 250 mL of purified water to each cup.
  • Dissolve the pH 4.01, 6.86 and 9.18 buffer powders in their matching labeled cups.

Step 02

Complete three-point pH calibration

Follow the display sequence and complete each pH point in the order shown in the video.

  • Rinse the probe before moving to the next buffer.
  • Allow the displayed value to stabilize before confirming each point.
  • Complete pH 4.01, 6.86 and 9.18 without skipping a required display prompt.
  • Confirm that the monitor returns to normal measurement mode when calibration is complete.

Verify the calibration

  • Rinse the probe thoroughly after the final buffer.
  • Check the probe against a fresh known buffer and allow the value to stabilize.
  • Return the probe to the hydroponic reservoir in a stable-flow location.
  • Record the calibration date for future maintenance.

Troubleshooting

Why does the pH value not stabilize?

Rinse the probe, check for residue or trapped air, use a fresh buffer and allow the probe and solution temperature to settle.

Why did the monitor reject a calibration point?

Confirm the buffer value and cup label, use fresh solution, rinse the probe and repeat the point in the display sequence shown in Step 2.

When should I recalibrate the pH probe?

Recalibrate according to the supplied instructions, after probe cleaning or storage, or when a fresh known buffer shows an unexplained drift.
